Child's Diabetic Diary

This A4 annual activity Illustrated book has been specifically designed to encourage children with type 1 diabetes to write down their personal experiences and management of their diabetes. The diary can be started at any point during the year and is a great tool to encourage children to interact when writing in the book to strengthen their independence and help them to practice skills in the management and control of their diabetes.

Children can take the book with them if they are away from home visiting family or friends and can share information - helping others to understand their own personal needs. It can also be useful to take to hospital visits to record any progress, problems and future appointments.

There are 7 sections in the book, separated by tabs which are organised as follows:
1. A section to record personal information, family & friends telephone numbers, emergency contacts
and medical information
2. Hypo & hyper section to record personal signs and symptoms and plan for trips away
3. Comments pages for adults, children and teachers to communicate questions, views and observations
4. Hospital visits section to record results, appointments, equipment used, personal aims, goals &
outcomes
5. Food & drink section including charts to write down food choices, insulin and carbohydrate values
6. An annual diary to record blood glucose readings, insulin dose, and relevant comments (the
diary can be started at any point during the year)
7. Notes pages

The book is designed to last a year and features glossy, wipe-clean covers and pages. It contains 184 double-sided pages, and is bound with a spiro binding, allowing the pages to be turned back on themselves for space-saving and ease of writing.
